International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)
The IBO, founded in 1968, is a non-profit educational foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland.
It offers three programmes to schools: |
| |
|
| |
There are nearly 2402 authorized IB World schools in 129 countries.
The IB programmes are more practical and application-based. They have a broader spectrum of subjects that leads to the all-round development of students. The IB assessments test students' knowledge, not their memory and speed. The focus of the IB pedagogy is on 'how to learn' rather than 'what to learn'. The purpose of the IB is to create global citizens. |

The Primary Years Programme
For the age group 3 to 12, the PYP is a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning, with an international curriculum model that provides guidelines for what students should learn, a teaching methodology and assessment strategies. After consultation with the IBO, and provided that certain conditions are met, schools enjoy much flexibility in terms of developing the curriculum, the language of instruction, and the languages taught. |
| The IB Primary Years Programme focuses on development of the whole child through six transdisciplinary themes and the spirit of inquiry. |
| |
| › |
an inquiry into Who we are - about the Human Race |
| › |
an inquiry into Where we are in place and time - Geography, History |
| › |
an inquiry into How we express ourselves - Languages |
| › |
an inquiry into How the World works - Mathematics, Science and Technology. |
| › |
an inquiry into How we organize ourselves - Civic sense |
| › |
an inquiry into Sharing the planet - Community Sense |
|
| |
The PYP provides structured, purposeful inquiry which engages students actively in their own learning processes. |
